Weekly Roundup

WRISTS – After the EMG (shock test,) the results are that I do NOT have carpal tunnel syndrome. Rather, I have tendinopathy, problems with my tendins. So I’ve been trying to rest them and change certain behaviors, such as typing less and NOT wearing wrist braces to bed. I have seen a dramatic improvement.

CURTAINS – Last month, during our shoping extravaganza at the IKEA in Michigan, Jason and I bought curtain panels for the living room. Knowing that installing them would be a time consuming event, we put them off. We spent a perfectly good sunny Saturday inside putting them up, with the help of Paul. Jason likes the way the morning sun goes through them, which you can’t see very well in the pictures above.

NEW HOUSE – With the curtains done, we are getting closer to be completely moved in. Although the garage is not yet functional as it has a lot of boxes scattered about. In fact, my sister gasped when she saw the mess. Oh, well.

MYSTERY WEEKEND – For memorial day, I’m taking Jason on a 4-day mystery weekend. All he knows are the approximate times we will be flying and that he will need a passport. I would tell you where we are going but it’s classified and if I told you, I’d have to kill you and that’s too messy. And I don’t like the sight of blood and carnage.

Note: The destination of the mystery weekend is not necessarily pictured on this photo of the planet earth. It may be or it may not be. That's the thing about mysteries: they are mysterious.

Perfect Spring Sunday – Happy 'Mo Day

Jason and I were tired because we had been out with Paul the previous night. At around 8:00, we woke up. Opening the blinds I could tell it was going to be a nice day bright, shiny day.

At 9:50 am, Paul's car pulled up to the curb and we got in and zoomed across the river to Chex Nora's, a restaurant in Covington, Kentucky. We met Paul, Troy/Romeo and Glenn. We were in for a treat. They had a wonderful buffet with all the normal breakfast stuff, plus fish, roast beef, pastries and other delicious stuff.

Afterwards, we walked along the Farmer's market in Mainstraße village. It was basically a picked over rummage sale, with anything of remote value being 2x more expensive than you would think.

Upon returning home, Jason and I enjoyed some romantic 1:1 time.

Paul and Glenn dropped by for a quick drink before Jason and I again crossed the river to Newport, Kentucky to see "Parade" at the Footlighters theatre. The show did not disappoint. The acting, singing and all was all top notch. I was especially happy to see some old friends, like Pyron, Samantha, Kate, Brian and Brian. I was happy to talk with them after the show.

As we drove home, we both realized that we were hungry. I eyed people on the outdoor terrace of the Hofbräuhaus and asked Jason if felt like German food.

To our luck, the restaurant was doing a buffet with all my favorites: sausage, sauerkraut, sauerbraten, schnitzel, salads, bread. The works. We sat in the sun and savored the food and the moment.

After returning home, we took a brief walk down the street to Cincinnati's museum center. We walked side by side as the sun began its inevitable plunge into the horizon.

I can't think of a way the day could have been any better.

Wrist Problems

As some long time readers may recall, I've had issues with my wrists because of all the stress I put on my hands and wrists.

(Insert joke here)

Two years ago I saw an orthopedic surgeon and he suggested night braces and rest in lieu of cutting me open.

Well, with all the moving, building of furniture and typing for work, the symptoms have come back. In fact, the pain is as bad as it was in August 2005. I've missed some work and have had to really limit my typing as much as possible.

I visited a surgeon this week and he is concerned. I have an EMG (nerve test) next Tuesday. After this, we will have to decide whether I need carpal tunnel surgery.

Sleep Deprivation and Stresses

With all of the activities and stress of being feline in the 21st century, our cats have become sleep deprived. Hunters or not, I fear they are not getting the full 16 hours of average sleep time that the typical housecat is genetically programmed to have.
